What is Self-Sufficiency?
Self-sufficiency means that you are able to meet the basic needs of yourself and your child. Of course this means having a job that pays your bills, like rent and utilities, and having a car to get around in. But self-sufficiency means so much more than that. A self-sufficient mom is able to provide a safe and stable home for her child – a place free from fear and yelling and violence. A self-sufficient mom isn’t a perfect mom – she’s a mom who loves her kids enough to put their needs ahead of her own. A self-sufficient mom is able to seek help when she needs it, and give back to others when able. “Self sufficiency” doesn’t mean doing it all by yourself. When you’re self-sufficient you understand the importance of having safe, strong, and loving people in your life. Self-sufficiency isn’t just education and a good job. It’s also about physical, emotional and spiritual health, and knowing in your heart that there is always hope for your life.
