Melinda Smith is the Parent Educator at Hope House. She has over 20 years experience working with at-risk children and teens and is one of 30 certified facilitators in the state of Colorado for Nurturing Healthy Sexual Development. At Hope House, Melinda expanded the Parenting Program to now include 12 different classes, including age-specific classes, a family series, and the psychology of parenting, as well as a support group for teen moms whose children have special needs. Under Melinda’s direction, attendance has more than doubled to over 130 teen moms participating annually.  Melinda began her career working as a family counselor and case manager. She then moved to a Pregnancy, Education & Parenting Counselor position in the Arlington School District where she counseled teen parents at two high schools. Melinda received a BFA from Kansas State University and her Master’s degree in Art Therapy from Emporia State University.
